Presented here are a series of eye exercises and eye care tips that promote relaxation of the eye, or strengthens and conditions them.
Some say that vision is “90% mental and 10% physical”. Doing these exercises can provide relief for tired eyes.
The most notable example of eye exercises on a wide scale is that of China. Every morning, the schoolchildren and factory workers massage their eyes for a short while. And they do have a low incidence of myopia.
But many other factors come into play as well. Just consider the following questions: Can we compare China with industrialised countries? How about the undergraduate population? Does nutrition and lifestyle play a role?
So eye exercises are no miracle cure, but may produce some results. After all, it takes just a few minutes a day.
Call them what you will, exercises or games, come on! Stop staring at your computer screen and start doing them right now!
The exercises stated below have no copyrights. They are common knowledge and should be treated as such. Feel free to share them with your friends and family.
General tips when doing eye exercises
- Please take off your glasses or contact lenses, you will then feel more comfortable and relaxed.
- When doing the exercises, intensely concentrate on your eyes. Feel them working and coming to life again!
- Do them on a regular basis, e.g. ideally 3 times a day. The results will be better.

Idont think all the exercises as mention ed above are possible. I just cannot read anything without the glasses. Mqay be my eye sight is a little too weak. I am around 50. Do you think there is any scope of im provement?
Most of the people around the world are doing exercises but not eye exercise. These people forgot the natural method of eye improvement. If anyone has doubt on these exercises, do it regularly with commitment.

My daughter was diagnosed severe myopia when she was just seven years old measuring -3.00 d on both the eyes .We moved to new jersy last year. my daughter’s eye was worsen measuring -3.50 bot the eyes. Doctor recommended -3.25 d contact lenses for both the eyes and also he quoted that one can not prevent myopia progression till the age of late teens.I was worried and depressed by his statment.
when i was searching google Dr.bates method was very popular irrespective of controversy .we haven been to india on june 2007 and found that one of the center is giving free course on dr.bates method in pondicherry. It is a miracel after a week she improved -2.75 both the eye.
she continued too practice the eye exercise both time .there was not nuch improvement till sep 2007. in october 2007 she started reading all call signs and letter much easier without glasses.
when we checked up on november 12th she measured -1.5d on both the eyes.she feels much relaxed and her eyes look much bigger in size. and hope another
couple of months it will come to below -1.00. we are delighted

My son has been diagnosed with a power of -1.75D in both the eyes.
I have started doing the eye exercises (rotating eyes,squeezing,focus far and near,palming).Do you think these are going to help in reducing the eye sight?

How old is your son? The younger he is, the better his chances of improving his eyesight.
Keep at them diligently, and you will see an improvement yourself too.

I was very upsetting and depressed that my 3 daughters were diagnoised with myopia. Their degrees range from -1.25D to -3.00D. Their ages are 7 to 10. Two of them had astigmatism range from 50 to 75 degree.
I do not know whether to let them put on their glasses most of the time or should I let them use them as and when needed. I afraid that they may over strain their eyes if not put on! So what is your recommendation?
Should they follow the exercise, I really hope to some improvements!
Hi Janice,
They should only wear the glasses when necessary, e.g. looking at the blackboard in school. When doing near work such as reading or using the computer, then the glasses would just cause strain to their eyes.
Glasses are temporary aids for their far vision, you should slowly wean off them it in an appropriate manner.

Hello.
I’m 24 years old and I wear glases for 11 or 12 years. No it is aprox. -5 for both eyes and with small astigmatism. Usually I am wearing contact lenses with strenght -3,75 (it is less for 1.25 dioptries). I am working with computer every day, 8 hours per day. I am driving a car, so I cant not wear glasses.
How do you think, is it possible for me to get back to better sight?

Well, to start with, your current lifestyle is not conducive to good eyesight. 8 hours of intense computer work every day will negate any benefits you get from the eye exercises.
See if you can take regular breaks and rest your eyes. Then we can talk about improving your eyesight.
It is possible, but it’ll take some major changes to your daily routine.

Hi aneted, you’re right about that. It’s impossible to stop using the computer, we just have to adapt as best as we can.
I am using a -1.50 power glass for my eyes. I am 22. Could anybody give me some idea on improving eyesight?

Your degree is low and you’re relatively young. Practise these eye exercises diligently and you have a great chance of improving your eyesight.

It’s not just about doing eye exercises, you have to adopt a holistic approach.
If eye exercises are like a deposit into your eye health account, then bad habits like over-use of computers, excessive reading and other close work, lack of sleep and improper nutrition are the withdrawals.
Eye exercises won’t work if you don’t look at the other aspects of your lifestyle as well.

I had my son tested 2 months back. with an optometrist.The doctor said he has 20/100 and .25 astigmatism and he wrote a presrciption for 1.75 minus.I’ve been making him do the exercises from the past 2 months.and took again for another eye check up with an Opthalmologist.He said he has a vision of 20/80 with the same astigmatism(0.25).He wrote a prescription for 2.5 minus.
Which one is correct.I’m totally confused.

Good to hear from you again. This is a common problem with prescription glasses. Our eyesight fluctuates daily, but the ophthalmologist doesn’t take that into account. So very often, we end up with over-powered glasses.
My advice is to get glasses which are suitable for the tasks which your son is doing. For example, if he’s doing a lot of near work, then make sure that the power isn’t too strong.
I know he’s young, it isn’t going to be easy to teach him to be aware of his eyes and physical reactions to wearing glasses. But it’s important to start now.
Persevere with good vision habits (eye exercises, good nutrition, adequate rest etc) and I’m sure your son will thank you in the future.

I see that his sight has reduced from 20/100 to 20/80.I’m concerned why the doctor gave the prescription with more power for a 20/80 vision.For 20/100 vision he got a prescription for -1.75 D.For a 20/80 vision he got a prescription for -2.5 D.
So which one should i go with?Or should i go to another doctor and have his eyes checked again just to make sure i don’t use glasses with much power.
His vision had reduced from 20/100 to 20/80 but not the prescription power.

I’m a frequent user of the computer. It’s because of my work and don’t think can do anything about it. Perhaps take more breaks. My lens are -6.00 and -5.5.
Do you think it’s possible that I can make improvements with these exercises?

I know it’s tough when your work revolves around the computer, but longer more frequent and longer breaks will really help.
As for the exercises, the more you do them, the better the effect. But don’t forget, exercises will be of limited effect if you’re not well-rested to begin with.

Yes it’s a good idea to get a second opinion. Even going back to the same eye doctor for a re-measurement might get you different results.
But I suspect the doctor would not be too willing to change his prescription. It would mean that he was wrong the first time.

sorry to bug again… but can you give me a plan for these exercises? I have lots of questions to ask hehe.
First and fore-most I will try to take more breaks from the computer - take 1 hr break.
Then come back from work and try to do exercises. How much time do I need to spend on average? I know you said that the more time the better but how much? I can go for like 4 hrs but this wouldn’t be practical I suppose.
Which exercise is the most effectful? What if I do only one of them? If I do all of them how much time do I have to spend on each?!
As you can see these are all like the type of questions that people would ask. As many did when I told them about these.

Hi, I want to join the Navy, but I am unable to enlist if my eyesights is less than -3.00 diopters. My current eyesight is -3.15. I have exactly four months before I enlist, will this time be enough for me to improve my eyesight if I do the Bates Method 3 times a day + drink cucumber juice once a day? Hi, I’m a 17 year-old student and I recently “discovered” these eye exercises. I spent a lot of time on the computer(5-6 hours daily).I have been wearing glasses for 2 years(-1.75 in left eye and -1.50 in the right eye) and in the past 2 years it hasn’t detiorated(so I’m hoping it will get better somehow). I want to know if these exercises will cure my myopia(if they really work or not). If I religiously follow this holistic approach, will I regain my vision? And how long would it take for me to see results(if possible)?

I checked out your link. Most of the facts are correct but I would be careful about 2 of them:
1.
Myth: Sitting close to the television will harm your eyes.
Fact: There is no evidence that sitting close to the television will damage your eyes. If this were true, office workers that sit 8 hours a day 17 inches from their computer screens, would all be blind. Sit wherever you are most comfortable when watching TV.
Close work is a huge factor in myopia. This is precisely why people who use computers 8 hours a day usually wear glasses.

Myth: Eye exercises will improve your vision.
Fact: Eye exercises will not improve your vision. This myth has made many people wealthy. Rolling your eyes around has no effect on your vision.
Whether it can work for you, you can try them for yourself. In any case, you don’t have to pay any money. All the information is available here for free!
I am 25 years old. I have -2 farsightedness in both the eyes and I work on computer for 10 hours a day. I wear specs or lenses constantly. How can I get rid of specs or lenses?

i have had glasses ever since i was young. I have high astigmatism on my right eye. On my left eye i have a -2.00 and on my right i have -1.25 can someone please suggest me some excersises that might help me reduce my astigmatism. And i was also wondering since i have high astigmatism is it alright for me to wear contacts..?
AND also does having astigmatism cause your eyes to look a bit cross eyed ..or not cause that is what i heard..

Out of desperation to reduce the increasing poer of my son’e eye, I stumbled upon your sit. Pl clarify my doubts.
(a) In six months, his lens power has increased from - 2.5 to -3.0 in the right eye, and -2 to -2.75 in the left eye. The doc says that this is normal. Is it ?
(b) Can regular eye exercise correct his vision ?

For me, finding out about exercises and doing them WAS a miracle, because I’ve actually managed to fully restore my eyesight that way! Very pewerful stuff!! I’ve even created a step-by-step guide, detailing the steps I took. And they are very simple! E.g. when you work with a pc, read a book, or when you are doing anything else that requires you to stare at it for a long time, especially close up, you need look around the room, look into the distance now and again. If you do that, your eyesight will NOT get worse. Otherwise, it WILL - it’s only normal, only common sense. If you do start noticing your eyesight worsening, then you can start doing more exercises - move your eyes up, down, left, right, look onto your nose etc - do this for a couple of mins once every hour or so, then close your eyes and relax. If you put your hands over your face, so that your eyes are right in the middle of your palms, with no light getting through, and stay like this for a minimum of 3 mins, then your eyes will relax and you’ll see a huge improvement for a moment - every day you’ll notice a slight improvement in your vision, right until the moment when you fully restore it.
